AI apps by usage
In the week of October 19 – 25, 2026, the 312 AI apps at the top of OpenRouter's lists used 64.7 trillion tokens. The apps listed both weeks changed their token use by +16% against the week before. The most: Claude Code, 12.7 trillion. The fastest growth: ZCode, +219% in a week. 19 apps grew by a quarter or more, and 4 fell as much. 7 apps are on the lists for the first time in five weeks. Across every model on OpenRouter, 188 trillion tokens went through in the week; the most used was deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash, with 27.4% of them.
Only traffic through OpenRouter: an app that mostly calls model vendors directly shows a small part of its use here. Each provider counts tokens with its own tokenizer, so compare an app with itself over time, not two apps token for token.

Method
Every Thursday we read OpenRouter's public app rankings for the week that ended on Sunday, through its API: the top 200 apps overall and the top 100 of each of the marketplace's 15 categories. An app's tokens are its prompt and completion tokens through OpenRouter in the week, as OpenRouter counts them.
Each week is kept as it was read. An app's week is compared with its week before and with the average of the four weeks before, over the weeks it was on a list. A change under a quarter is left out of the movers, and so is an app under 100 billion tokens in the week: a small app doubles easily. An app on a list this week, with at least 25 billion tokens, and on none of the four weeks before is new on the lists: it may be new, or it may have grown into them.
The models are OpenRouter's weekly totals of the 50 most used models, with every other model counted together; a share is of all tokens on OpenRouter that week. Versions of one model released on different dates are counted as one model.
Nothing here is written by a model: the sentences are filled in from the numbers in the tables. The data is OpenRouter's, published under CC BY 4.0.
